WORKER'S COMPENSATION INSURANCE: The Salinas Valley Builders Exchange is proud to endorse the finest group compensation insurance program available, the BUILDERS EXCHANGE COMPENSATION COUNCIL. The group program is underwritten by the State Compensation Insurance Fund. STATE FUND IS OUR INSURANCE COMPANY. Through the BECC, members may choose the type of group best suited to their own individual needs. These plans offer a marvelous opportunity to members in controlling their losses and in receiving a very substantial return on their premium in the form of a dividend. This group program has historically yielded the highest dividends of any construction group in the State. The State Fund and BECC introduced the "Group Bonus Plan" to our members, which has gained an additional bonus on top of their own individual dividend. As in all insurance coverage, the stress is on SAFETY. Although we cannot guarantee dividends, we have never failed to pay them. Our State Fund sales representative visits our Exchange weekly, please contact the Exchange if you are interested in discussing this program further.

CODE OF ETHICS
We believe that the procedures and policies listed below will serve to preserve the integrity, honesty and principles of the construction industry. The Salinas Valley Builders Exchange encourages all members to adhere to the applicable provisions of the California State Contractor's License Laws, the Business and Professions Code and any other statutes pertaining to the building and construction industry.

Architects, engineers, building designers and owners should select for bidding only responsible contractors in whom they have confidence. After bid openings, the job should be awarded to the low bidder. If minor cost adjustments are necessary, negotiations should be with the low general contractor, and he or she in turn, should negotiate with his or her low accepted subcontractors. General contractors should not by-pass the above established procedures.

Bids of General and Subcontractors should be kept confidential until after bid opening time. Unsuccessful generals and subcontractors should not revise their figures after opening of bids. No contractor should take advantage of and obvious error in plans and specifications or other documents that will react unfairly to the detriment of another. Bidding for work without figuring overhead and reasonable profit tends to bankrupt the entire industry. Each business transaction should be based upon that which is morally right rather than which may be legally enforceable.

The Salinas Valley Builders Exchange will not accept plans and specifications for rebidding unless substantial changes have been made therein, or a period of six months has elapsed from the time of the original bidding.

Intentional violations of the above will not be condoned by the Salinas Valley Builders Exchange. The Executive Committee will investigate violations and recommend to the Board of Directors the measures to be taken against violators. Members are asked to report violations to the Chief Executive Officer who will bring them to the attention of the Executive Committee.
